Details :

During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, Flight Lieutenant Manjit Singh Sekhon was commanding a detachment of a front line Fighter Squadron. He flew 14 missions at low heights in very difficult terrain of Jammu and Kashmir and caused extensive damage to several enemy bunkers, vehicles, guns, mortar positions, POL and ammunition dumps. He carried out these missions in their face of heavy ground fire. He substantially contributed to the success of our ground forces in Kargil Tithwal, Poonch and Uri Sectors. He also ensured a high rate of serviceability of aircraft.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Manjit Singh Sekhon displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.

During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, Flight Lieutenant Shivinder Singh Bains as a pilot in a Fighter Squadron, flew fourteen operational missions in Poonch, Uri and Kargil Sectors in close support of our ground forces. He led missions deep into the enemy territory in the face of heavy enemy ground opposition. He destroyed two enemy conveys of trucks in the Haji Pir Bulge. In one of these missions in the Poonch Sector, his aircraft was hit by ground fire but he managed to get the aircraft back to base safely.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Shivinder Singh Bains displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.

During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, Flight Lieutenant Parminder Paul Singh Kawatra (11383) was attached to a fighter squadron. He flew several missions including three as mission leader in Poonch, Uri, Tithwal and Kargil sectors. Despite limited experience on type he successfully completed all his missions. On the 15th and 16th December, 1971, while engaged in attacks at the enemy posts his aircraft engines flamed out but he continued the attack after relighting the engines. On the 15th December, 1971, during an enemy air raid on one of our airfields, the camouflage net covering a blast pen caught fire. He rushed to the spot and put off the fire despite the fact that enemy aircraft were still over head.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Parminder Paul Singh Kawatra displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.

Details :

Flight Lieutenant Kailash Chandra Parik was a member of an operational detachment formation which was given a special role in the operations in December, 1971. He displayed a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and imagination in preparing the specialised aircraft for operations. In spite of his limited experience in night flying, he achieved through his hard work, avid interest and application of correct techniques, a high standard in night flying. On the 11th December, 1971, he took off for a night flying mission at a very low altitude of 200'- 300' above ground level, and attacked railway yards well inside enemy territory, causing considerable damage. He was not satisfied by attacking these two targets and before returning straffed an enemy troop concentration. On the 12th December, 1971 he again took off in darkness to attack fuel dumps 40 Nautical Miles deep inside enemy territory and successfully located the target in the "Black-out" conditions. He carried out attacks on the target with extreme precision and determination.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Kailash Chandra Parik displayed courage, professional skill and devotion to duty.
